We're going to make an Android app

Due to the crazy amount of requests we’ve gotten, we’ve decided to promote Android from being a stretch goal to an integral part of Wynd that we’ll ship with the product.

When we started building Wynd, we decided to ship with an iOS app only. We were going to build the Android app after 1) iterating on the user experience of the iOS app, and 2) hiring awesome Android engineers. Our founding team's development experience is mostly in iOS—so it made sense at the time.

Since we’ve launched our Kickstarter, though, the messages started coming in: People wanted Android. And they didn't want to get Wynd without it.

So we made it a stretch goal. We thought that that was the smart thing to do. The extra funding would give us the resources to onboard an Android team and have the app shipped with the product.

The catch-22: Android users—more than half of our potential backers—don’t want to back our project before we hit our stretch goal. Not surprisingly, this makes it harder to hit our stretch goal.

We’ve decided that it makes sense to immediately bring on engineers to build out the Android app alongside the iOS app. We've already built out the back-end architecture and user experience, and we've already identified engineers who can work with us. We're ready to bring Android to life!

We’re incredibly excited about adding so many more people to the Wynd community. 80% of smartphone users in the world use Android, so this means that Wynd's global air quality data will be way more robust and useful.

So, welcome to the Wynd family, Android users. And if you’re an Android user that backed even before we hit our Android stretch goal, virtual hug for you!

New $600k stretch goal: Integration with another smart platform

Because Android is no longer a stretch goal, we’ve decided to make our new $600k stretch goal integration with another smart platform. That could mean...

• "Alexa, turn down Wynd"
• Automatically turn Wynd on when you're entering your office
• Get a text when grandpa's air quality is unhealthy
• "Siri, what's the air quality in Casey's room?”

The possibilities are endless!

If we reach this goal, after the campaign ends we'll poll all backers to vote on which platform to first integrate with.

Our whole team at Wynd is very humbled and ecstatic by the support from the Kickstarter community on our first day. In 15 hours we already reached our funding goal of $50,000 from supporters all over the world. We've gotten messages from people who want to use Wynd in public transportation, at home, at work, with babies, and while exercising--and many other use cases we hadn't even thought about. Thank you for your belief and trust in us. We're working hard to make a high-quality product that you will love.  

Let's not stop just yet though. The more our community grows, the more data we can use to build a comprehensive worldwide air quality map--which can give people everywhere the information they need to make healthier choices and improve environmental conditions.

In addition, please stay tuned for some cool updates about stretch goals, add-on items, and more info about product features. Please also don't hesitate to ask us any questions or provide suggestions on how we can do better.

Cool ways to share Wynd

We're extremely honored to be featured as Kickstarter's project of the day today! As of writing this, 1,494 backers have pledged to be part of the Wynd family, and we've gotten over $250k in pledges—over 500% of our goal. 

We want to share some ways that might make it easier to share the Wynd experience with your loved ones:

1. Split a Wynd Family Pack with your friends 

Get your Venmo ready! Pool some money with your friends and save when you pledge for the Wynd Family Pack reward instead of the standard Wynd package.

2. Give the gift of clean air 

Got a relative in Beijing who breathes in too much pollution? Got a friend with bad allergies who needs a break? You can give Wynd as a gift by providing us with an alternate shipping address after pledging for your reward.

Projects we love

Our friends at 101Hero and Knocki have some really cool projects on Kickstarter:

101Hero: the world’s first $49 3D printer

101Hero is the most affordable 3D printer in the world. All you have to do to print things out is insert your memory card and press the button. We think that this product would be an absolutely perfect fit for those wanting to get into building products, hardware, and toys without dropping $4k on a 3D printer. Knocki: Make any surface smart

You’ve probably seen Knocki, since it’s extremely popular on Kickstarter right now. It’s a device that you can attach to surfaces to turn things into remote controls—so it can turn your entire house into a sort of futuristic if-this-then-that palace: Tap your nightstand to lock your front door, tap your kitchen counter to find your lost phone, tap your coffee table to turn on your TV. Maybe in the future you could tap your kitchen counter to get Wynd started in your car in the morning, or tap your coffee table to turn down Wynd to a super-low volume while you catch up on GoT. Stretch goals announced!

Behold—the Wynd stretch goals! If we raise these amounts, we'll make these things happen:

$300k - Free replacement filter

Everyone who selected a reward with at least 1 Wynd purifier will receive one free replacement filter (in addition to the filter that already comes with Wynd, and any add-on filters they’ve ordered).

$600k - Android app!

We will ship the Wynd Android app when we ship Wynd. Originally, we were planning on launching Android around mid-2017, but due to popular demand, we’ve decided to make it a stretch goal.
